From: To: Show Prime Numbers Show Composite Numbers Prime and Composite Numbers What are prime numbers? Those numbers greater than 1 which upon division with any natural number except, one(1) and itself, results a decimal quotient are called prime numbers. Examples of prime numbers are 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 97, 197, 199, 991, 997, 9949, 9967, 9973 and so on. What are composite ...

If xy = yx, where x≠y, then find the value of x and y.

Solution Given x y = y x      .....(i) x≠y      .....(ii) Let x = ky      .....(iii) where k is a constant Equation .....(i), .....(ii) and .....(iii) implies that k≠1. Inserting x = ky in equation .....(i) (ky) y = y ky Or, k y . y y = y ky Or, k y = y ky . y -y Or, k y = y ky - y Or, k y = y y(k-1) Or, k y = (y (k-1) ) y Here power of both the sides are y so. Or, k = y (k-1) Raising both sides by power of     1  k-1    we get   Or, k   1  k-1    = y y = k   1  k-1    .....(iv) So, x = ky is given by x = k (k   1  k-1    ) x = k   1  k-1   +1  ...

The price of 3 commodities X,Y,z are rupees x,y,z per unit respectively. A purchase 4 units of z and sells 3 units of X and 5 units of Y. B purchases 3 units of Y and sells 2 units of X and 1 unit of Z. C purchases 1 unit of X and sells 4 units of Y and 6 units of Z. In this process A, B and C earn Rs.6,000, Rs5,000 and Rs.13,000 respectively. Find the price per unit of 3 commodities by using Cramer's rule.

In this numerical the number associated with earning and selling are considered positive while purchasing which means outflow of cash is considered negative. Equation for A: 3x + 5y - 4z = 6000 ....(i) Equation for B: 2x - 3y + z = 5000 ....(ii) Equation for C: -x + 4y + 6z = 13000 ....(iii) D  =   Om Om Om    Om Om Om Om Om Om    3    2    -1                  5    -3    4                  -4    1    6    Om Om Om Om Om Om Om Om Om      =  3 × (-3) × 6  +  5 × 1 × (-1)  +  (-4) × 2 × 4  -  3 × 1 × 4  -  5 × 2 × 6  -  (-4) × (-3) × (-1)   =  -54-5-32-12-60+12   =  -151 D₁  =   Om Om Om    Om Om Om Om Om...

Hari sells 7 share of P and buys 9 shares of Q thus increasing his cash by Rs 70. Gopal sells 9 share of P and buys 14 shares of Q, decreasing his cash by Rs 80. Find the price of P and Q by using Cramer’s rule.

Solution Let p be the rate of P type share and q be the rate of Q type share. As selling of shares increases the cash so its coefficient is taken as positive while buying of share results in spending of cash so its coefficient is taken as negative. Also if the net cash increases its sign will be positve while if the net cash decreases its sign will be negative. Two linear equations for the above problem can be shown as : 7p - 9q   =   70 9p - 14q   =   -80 D  =   Om Om    Om Om Om Om    7    9                  -9    -14    Om Om Om Om   =  7×(-14) - 9×(-9)  =  -98 - (-81)  =  -98 + 81  =  -17 Om Om    D₁  =   Om Om    Om Om Om Om    70    -80                  -9  ...
