Characteristics of plastics
Properties of plastics
Characteristics of plastics
- Light :- It is light in weight.
- Chemicaly inactive :- Water, moisture and air can't corrode plastics. Even it is not affected by various acids and other chemicals.
- Insulator :- Plastics are good insulator and bad conductor of both heat and electricity.
- Polymer :- Plastics are synthetic polymer.Plastics are long chain of repeated small organic molecules.
- Transparency :- A plastics comes transparecy rangees from a transparent object to an opaque object.
- Color :- Plastics are milky-white in color. various color pigments are used to give desirable color to plastics.
- Burning :- Plastics are long chain of carbon molecules. Upon burning they release toxic gase like carbon-monoxide(CO), Hydrogen chloride gas(HCl), Hydrogen Cynide gas(HCN)
- Mouldability :- Applying heat and pressure plastics can be mould to any shape.
- Melting points :- Most of the thermoplastics melts between 150 to 300 degree centigrade temperature.
- Non-biodegradable :- Plastics are not decompose by weather and bacteria in the environment.
- Greenhouse property:- Plastics containers trap short wavelength light. This property is used to control temperature in farming.
- Thermosoftening plastics (Thermoplastic) are usually soft while thermosetting plastics are hard.
