Differences between thermoplastic and thermosetting plastic:-

Thermoplastics
Vs
Thermosetting Plastics

1.
Thermoplastics have linear molecular chains.
While
Thermoset plastics have cross linked molecular chains.

2.
Thermoplastics become soft on heating.
While
Thermosetting plastics can withstand high temperature.

3.
Curing of thermoplastics is reversible.
While
Curing of thermosetting plastics is irreversible.

4.
Thermoplastics can be moulded again and again by use of heat.
While
Thermoset plastics can not be moulded into second shape using heat once it has taken solid shape.

5.
Thermoplastics are recyclable.
While
Thermosetting plastics cannot be recycled.

6.
Thermoplastics are usually soft. They are tough too but as tough as thermosetting plastics.
Where
Thermosetting plastics are tougher than thermoplastics.

7.
Examples of thermoplastics are:-
Polyethylene, Polypropylene, Polystyrene, PVC, Nylon etc.
Where
Examples of thermosetting plastics are:-
Bakelite, Polyester resin, Polyurethanes, Melamine, Epoxy resin, Polytetrafluoroethylene(Teflon) etc.

8.
Water bottles, buckets, wire insulations are widely used applications of thermoplastics.
While
Cookware handle, plastics surmounting electric irons, vehicles’ tyres are some applications of thermoset plastics.
