Alcohol thermometer can measure the temperature of an ice but cannot measure the boiling point of water. Why?

Freezing point of alcohol is -114ºC and its boiling point is +78ºC which includes the ice temperature of 0ºC but not the boiling point of water i.e. 100ºC. That is why Alcohol thermometer can measure the temperature of an ice but cannot measure the boiling point of water.
